About Me

My name is Vivienne Glasser and I am 26 years old. I was born and raised on eastern Long Island in a small beach town. I went to public school where I studied alongside the same 65 students from K-12. I moved out of my parent’s house after high school graduation and attended community college, then made the move to NYC. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for five years and am pursuing an Education Degree in grades 1-6 at Brooklyn College. My journey in discovering who and what I wanted to be started a bit later than I had hoped, but I am here now, feeling empowered and driven to become a teacher.

My Journey

I never had a clear vision of my future until recently. Throughout high school, I was uncertain about what to study in college. I always enjoyed myself the most when working in my high school’s drama club, so I decided to enroll in a two-year technical theater program at a community college. Even then, I wasn’t sure this could be my long-term career path. However, my experience as a nanny during the COVID-19 pandemic made me realize my passion for working with children. While caring for them daily presented significant challenges, I discovered that I was not only capable but skilled at it. I adapted and grew alongside them, adjusting to their needs, ensuring engaging playtime, and refining our routines. This experience with them ignited my idea of becoming a teacher and gave me a clear focus for my studies, one I could ultimately build into a career.

Why Am I Passionate About Education?

I am passionate about teaching because I love kids. I love their confidence and naivety, their eagerness to try new things and their unique, blossoming personalities. Young children have such open minds about the world and as teachers we have the opportunity and fortune to provide them with the knowledge, tools and foundations to become critical thinkers, problem-solvers, informed citizens, compassionate and empowered individuals and so much more. I want to be the teacher students remember when they’re older, I want to be the teacher from whom they learn valuable life lessons from. I want to provide an environment where students develop a love for learning. I am passionate about teaching because I love kids and want them to have access to the world of knowledge that education provides, and I want to be the one who helps pass this knowledge on.
